To Market.....

The flu is finally behind us !
And...Summer is on it's way!!!
Thank you to all who sent well wishes and prayers our way.
Miss Freckles is back to her spunky self again too !
We went out this weekend to the Farmers Market.

We walked around it once to get a feel for what
they were selling and comparing prices.
Which is a smart thing to do since many farmers price
things differently from one another.

We had time to goof off too!
Of course Miss Freckles likes to monkey around!!

We didn't leave with much...
Just a basket of organic strawberries, a head of lettuce,
range free jumbo eggs, and organic raw honey yum!

It was a fabulous day at the market.
Now I am off to plan a birthday....
someone is turning 16!!!!

To Weed Or Not To Weed? That Is The Question.....

Okay...we all get these in our yards...
we mow till our yard looks immaculate and low and behold
the next day there are these pesky little yellow weeds all over the lawn.
Well, you can either spray 'em or weed 'em out and toss it without any thought to it.
Or hey, you can weed them...and eat them......
Yes, eat them...
A couple years ago I posted about these
little flowers and their benefits to your health here.

My newest Bloggy friend from Rosy~Posy did a post on a Dandelion Flower Cookies
a while back....which reminded me of the benefits that dandelions have.
I thought this is the perfect time to try it out since
there are so many dandelions growing all over our neighbors
lawns as well as our own. So Miss Freckles, Missy and I took a
little walk in out Suburban neighborhood
( we don't have any dandelion fields close by)
and picked dandelions from all the yards...
Oh yes we did!!!

It was actually harder then we thought since we live in
a neighborhood where you MUST have your lawns
mowed or you get fined by the HOA...
We picked just enough to make a batch.

We brought them back to inspect them for buggies...
Since we saw Rosy~Posy's kids found a slug in theirs.Sounds crazy I know...
But it was really fun to sort through them and break off all the little Florets.
For this recipe you need to remove the florets from their base.
Hold the florets with one hand and pinch the green
flower base very hard with the other, give a little twist and that should do it.

Dandelion Flower Cookies
  1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup honey
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup unbleached flour
1 cup dry oatmeal
1/2 cup dandelion florets

Preheat oven to 375°F.
Blend oil and honey and beat in the two eggs and vanilla.
Stir in flour, oatmeal and dandelion florets.
Drop the batter by teaspoonfuls onto a
lightly oiled cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes.
Let cool and eat.
Yummy and so easy to make!
To learn more about this very interesting
plant read more here.

Most gardeners detest them,
but the more you try to weed them up,
the faster they grow. So, dear friends...
If you weed 'em I say eat 'em !!!
It is really a benefit!
Happy Friday to you!!!

Time Spent....

The past several days Freckles has been ill with the flu.
After My son gave it me,
I gave it to Mr. Darling who in return gave it to Freckles.
It's a vicious circle.
For some reason it just seems harder on the little ones.
This flu had struck us with mega head aches, neck aches,
fever, pain throughout body, sore throats and coughing..... Nasty stuff.
Poor Freckles has been running a fever today.
It makes me sad to see her so sick.
Her Time was spent on her bed reading a bit.

I captured these photos of her on her pretty bed,
sitting on an older Ganny my Grandmother made when I was younger.
It is perfect in Freckles room. The roses so sweet!

My dear Freckles loves her bed room and bed which
is adorned with some vintage fabrics...
An old quilt that is quite tattered hangs on her wall...
while vintage sheets make up her bed.

Perfectly cozy for her when shes under the weather.
I went to check on her a while later and the poor dear fell asleep.

Get well my sweet girl!!!

Mama Mia....

Today is Rednesday!
Hosted by

A couple of weeks ago my neighbor was having a gargae sale.
This whimsical gal was sitting on the table waiting to come home with me.
I asked how much she wanted for her...
she replied "One dollar!"
I clutched it in my hands and gave her a dollar then ran home...
ha ha ha ha....
I really didn't run.

I  loved her sweet red scarf on her head, her big bare feet
and the HUGE carrot she's holding.
She reminded me of an Italian woman
gathering her goods from her garden.

She now stands in my cuccina
waiting to cook with me.

If only I could grow huge veggies like that!
Have a great Rednesday...
Be sure to check out all the other reds today!!!

Young Love... The Way Of Love....

We attended our young couple friends wedding this last weekend. It was beautiful.
Are you the type to cry at weddings?
I do. I am such an emotional case...
I cry to everything...movies, births, deaths, weddings, sad times
and happy moments.
I am a cry baby okay!!!
I sat there watching this young couple exchange their vows,
tears running down my face, thoughts taking me back to my
own wedding day 16 years ago. Maybe not that long ago
to some, but just looking at how things have changed...
and matured over the years.
Young and in love we were...Just wanting to get married..
because...we loved each other so.

Learning to live together...sharing and giving.
Gaining big responsibilities and learning that you are no longer just you anymore!
  Our faith grows...Blessings overflow...
Then the children come. A lot of growth, a lot of praying,
learning patience, and sacrifice.
There is hope.
You grow even closer together, the years pass, the love grows.
Even though there may be spats and misunderstandings here and there,
they are small tests to show you that you need God.
Love Bears all things.
You make up and you love each other even more than you did before.
That was us!
That is us!

To have that young love again, the butterflies in the stomach
the achy heart that pitter patters... I would have to say.....
No!
It was sweet at the time...
But through the years I have spent with my true love I confess,
I am more in love with him today than I had been 16 years ago.
I believe that our faith and years of  experience gave
us wisdom and knowledge of what the truest love is.
Without God, there is no love.
I am praying that our friends will have the same experience as we have.
I pray that their love will grow!

~1 Corinthians 13~
*****
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,  but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;  it does not rejoice at wrongdoing,
but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.  For we know in part and we prophesy in part,  but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

The Fairy House...

What ever happened to the good ole watering cans that would withstand any weather? Not this one. Poor thing got weak in the climate and broke off the spout. At first I thought it was trash.... Then the other day Freckles was playing fairies...

She mentioned how she wanted to make a fairy house...
I thought..Hmmm...I know just the thing.
I brought the broken watering can in from the yard and
asked her if she would want to make this into a fairy house.

I really didn't have to ask that question...
Of course she wanted to make it into a fairy house.
Then, I offered her my paints to decorate it however she wanted.
She painted grass and flowers...
It was just the perfect house for the fairies in our garden.

She left them honey...
Since they like sweet things to eat.

She even found the tiniest little flowers that make
the perfect little tea cups of sorts, which they can drink from.

She then decorated the inside with natural
furnishings and gave them a little broom ...
in which to keep their home tidy.
( You know fairies are the tidiest of creatures?)
Freckle was quite proud of her little fairy home...
I told her she could put it anywhere she liked in the garden.
She chose the nicest spot in the corner under greenery and flowers
Just perfect for her tiny little tenants to keep home.
"Garden fairies come at dawn,
Bless the flowers then they're gone."
